If you don't have any DVD ROM and you want to install RHEL on your desktop/server, What to do ??????
If you cannot boot from the DVD/CD-ROM drive, you can boot using a USB device, such as a USB pen drive, the following alternative boot method is available.
Your system firmware must support booting from a USB device in order for this boot method to
work. Refer to the hardware vendor's documentation for details on specifying the device from
which the system boots.
There are 2-3 ways for your installation you can find many ways on Google of in RHEL installation Manuel
but i find them very difficult. I will show you a simple and easy way to do it just follow the below steps.
Step 1 : Download iso2usb software follow the below link.
Download iso2usb
Step 2: Extract the zip File file using winrar/winzip or any other....
Step 3: click the iso2usb exe.
Step 4: Select your iso/dvd and the usb drive as shown below.
Diskimage : If your are having the ISO image of RHEL select it if not check the CD Disk option
CD Disk : enter the DVD and select the DVD Drive
obviously you will be not having the DVD Drive that's the reason you are reading this article. lol
but its given in the option so iam showing it.
Select the USB Drive from the drop down box which you want to install and click OK
Note : Backup your data before clicking of it will flash your USB drive without any notification.
Step 5 : After its done. reboot your system and go to the bios setup by pressing the "Delete" key or what ever key your system is having to enter into the bios setup,Now go to advance configuration and change the boot priority to the USB Drive to 1.
In some systems you wont see the USB boot option in boot menu for that select the HardDisk as the first boot device and in HardDisk priority select your USB Drive. Save the changes your system will reboot.
Your installation will start by booting from USB Drve.
Step 6 : Follow the Installation options but while doing the configuration of GRUB or any other boot loader please make sure that you are installing GRUB on your Hardisk i.e hda not on USB Drive i.e sda, if you install it on sda you will not be able to boot RHEL after installation every time you need to put your USB Drive to boot the GRUB.
